Custom waypoint not displaying, start/end do

I have custom waypoint icons uploaded to WordPress. They all work and display as either the start or finish icon but not when the same url is used as the custom icon. Any ideas?

Also I have multiple waypoint icons for different features. I would like to nominate which is used from the GPX <wpt><symbol>. Is there any way I can incorporate this?

I have no coding experience but can follow instructions.
